ANGUL. In line with it CSR vision of making education accessible to all, JSPL Foundation – the CSR arm of Jindal Steel & Power Ltd – awarded OP Jindal Scholarship – 2014 to 196 students from various schools of Chhendipada and Banarpal Blocks of Angul District.

Chief Guest of the programme Mr. Pandab Behera (IFS), RCCF, Angul and Chief Patron Mr. DK Saraogi (Executive Director and Location Head of JSPL), Angul handed over the scholarship certificate and cheque to the selected students on September 30, 2014 at OP Jindal School, Angul.
Mr. NSJP Rao (Asst. Conservator of Forest, Angul), Dr. SK Mahapatra (Vice President & Head – HR) and Mr. SK Sharma (AVP & Head – CSR) were present on the occasion and encouraged the students. Selection of the scholarship was made on the basis of application and other eligibility criteria announced by JSPL Foundation, earlier.
Out of these 196 scholarships, 85 scholarships were given under the OP Jindal Rural Scholarship programme, as announced by JSPL last year. Total 79 scholars were selected on the basis of their performance in high school examination – 2014 and they will be given Rs. 12000/- as scholarship amount per year.
Six scholars were selected on the basis of their performance in IIT/JEE – 2014 examination. These students will be given Rs. 24000/- per year for their engineering studies. In both the case students with family income below Rs. 100,000/- only were considered. The scholarship amount is being disbursed in two installments, half yearly, through cheque in the name of the Awardee based on study continuation and performance. During the programme, the scholars were given cheque for 50% if their scholarship amount.
Besides, during the programme 61 students from OP Jindal School and Jindal Vidyapith were awarded scholarship under the special ‘Merit cum Means scholarship 2014 – for O.P. Jindal Schools’ programme.
Meritorious students pursuing studies in classes Nursery and onwards up to Class XII in these two schools and belonging from economically weaker sections will be given scholarship of various amounts as per their class. In addition to this, 50 students, who awarded OP Jindal Scholarship, last year, were given OP Jindal Scholarship for the year 2014-15. The selection of these students was made on the basis of their performance in Class XI / Engineering Examination.
Chief Guest of the programme Mr. Behera, RCCF appreciated JSPL’s effort to enable poor meritorious for higher education.
“The great visionary Shri O.P. Jindal had supported education of various people in his life time. I believe, this scholarship named after him will help the meritorious students for higher education and ease burden of their parents,” said Mr. DK Saraogi, Executive Director and Location Head of JSPL. He appreciated the overwhelming response of students and teachers to the scholarship programme.
Total scholarship amount, under OP Jindal Scholarship programme, to be disbursed by JSPL during this financial year is more than Rs. 20 Lakh. About 50% of the scholarship amount has been handed over to selected students through cheques. The scholarship for the selected students will be renewed next year on the basis of their academic performance.
