BHUBNESWAR: Jindal Steel and Power Limited, Angul’s innovations in CSR interventions were adjudged as the ‘Best innovative Community Programme’ by the Interface – Asia, CSR-2011, awarded by the Tefla’s and the Times Of India on 27th August, 2011 in Hotel Swosti Premium in Bhubaneswar.
Chief Minister of Odisha Mr. Naveen Patnaik gave away the award to the Executive Director of JSPL Angul, Mr. Rajesh Jha.
CSR interventions of JSPL was displayed in the above venue in a captivating visual way through a Sales Cum Exhibition Stall by JSPL’s promoted SHGs encompassed in a theme ‘’Gram Samridhi – towards equitable development”. JSPL was was adjudged with the award for the Best Innovative Community Programme .
Under its CSR activities, the company has innovated ‘Sodashi’, the lowest cost sanitary napkin produced by the women SHGs and dovetailed for the use of rural women . JSPL is already known for operating the ‘Kishori Express’, a customized mobile health van equipped with Haemoglobin check up kit , iron tablets , iron centric seed kit and an awareness Touch Screen to control the adolescent anaemia in 189 villages in Chhendipada block.
The Mother and Child care software named ‘Aanchal’ launched by JSPL in collaboration with the District Administration / NRHM has been targeting to ensure ante- natal check ups for all pregnant women and their institutional delivery in this 189 villages. Other innovations of JSPL’s CSR which have contributed to sustainable rural livelihood are Eco Spa, the 100% herbal soap and body care products produced by women SHGs from locally grown herbal / vegetables and the Odi fab , the eco friendly products from Jute produced by the rural women SHGs.
State finance minister Mr. Praful Chandra Ghadai and Deputy Governor of RBI Mr. Haroon Rashid Khan have spent quality time in the Gram Samridhi Stall of JSPL and appreciated the innovative programmes undertaken by JSPL. Chief Secretary , Bijay Pattnaik in his address in the Forum also appreciated the innovative livelihood initiative of JSPL and called upon the Corporates to reorient their CSR interventions in to more sustainable and holistic projects.
The Think Odisha Leadership Awards were given in various categories, including Arts and Culture, Literature, Sports and Industry. In the corporate social responsibility category , JSPL was adjudged with the award for Best Innovative Community Programme.
The Interface – Asia, CSR-2011 was inaugurated by the Chairman, Orissa Human Rights Commission Mr. R.K. Patra in the morning session. Associate Vice President (CSR, R&R and Corp. Communications) of JSPL, Mr. Prashant Kumar Hota made a presentation on the “Challenges of sustainable CSR initiative by Corporates in Odisha” and brought out a detailed approach of transforming CSR projects from donor driven PR method to a need based Sustainable Development approach. Govt is the most credible partner for CSR projects , stated Mr Hota.
Mr Rajesh Jha , after receiving the award from the Chief Minister applauded the support of the State Govt, District Administration and the Media to orient the JSPL’s CSR projects to an effective People friendly mode. ‘CSR is the translation of our Passion for people in to holistic development projects and is embedded in our Corporate Mission ‘said Mr Jha.
This is noteworthy to mention that JSPL , Angul has bagged the Frame CSR Award from Tefla’s and the Times of India under different categories of CSR Intervention consecutively for four times till date.
