NEW DELHI: Wockhardt Foundation has joined hands with state-run Gail India to expand its ‘Vision 1000′ CSR initiative to the states of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, offering free primary healthcare to poor people in rural and remote areas.

Huzaifa KhorakiwalaWockhardt Foundation, the corporate social responsibility entity of Wockhardt Group, has entered into a strategic alliance with Gail (India) – which has a major presence in these two states – to jointly promote and fund the ‘Vision 1000′ healthcare programme, Wockhardt Foundation said in a statement.

As part of ‘Vision 1000′, over the next five years, Wockhardt Foundation plans to deploy 1,000 mobile healthcare units across the length and breadth of the country.

The pan-India expansion will help Wockhardt Foundation reach out to nearly 25 million poor people across the country with the promise of free healthcare services, the statement added.

The roll-out of the programme, which would provide free primary healthcare aid to nearly 135,000 patients annually in Madhya Pradesh and around 90,000 patients in Uttar Pradesh, would commence from the first week of October, 2011.

“Through this strategic collaboration with GAIL, we are expanding the programme in two key states; Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. Over the next one year, we aim to further expand this programme across other states of the country,” Wockhardt Foundation CEO Huzaifa Khorakiwala said.

Wockhardt Foundation has already launched the “Vision 1000″ initiative in Gujarat, Orissa and various parts of Maharashtra on its own.
