Clover Solar first to commission solar power plant under JNNSM

BARAMATI: Clover Solar Pvt. Ltd, a group company of Clover Technologies Pvt. Ltd today, announced that it was the first to successfully commission a 2.2 MW Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant in Supa, Baramati, Maharashtra and well before the deadline given by the Government under JNNM (Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission). Set up at an investment of Rs 40 crores, the plant spreads over 24 acres of land will generate more than 4 million units (kwh) of power per annum.

Clover Solar was one among just 16 companies in India and 3 in Maharashtra who won contracts under the Government of India’s Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission. JNNM aims to encourage solar power generation and achieve coal power grid parity by 2030.

This is the first milestone that the company has achieved in the direction of setting up 25 MW of Solar Power Plants over the next 3 years. The company plans to subsequently increase the capacity in 5MW phases, targeting 25 MW power generations through solar energy by 2013.

This is also the first solar power plant in India to incorporate the novel ‘Sun-Tracking’ technology. This enables solar panels to move to face the sun continuously as the sun alters its position during the day. This technology improves yields by 15%.

This is possible as the plant incorporates the best of crystalline and thin film technologies. Sunpower and First Solar CdTe modules have been used with industry best efficiencies of 16.9% and 10.9% respectively.

He adds, “We have used modules and inverters from the world’s largest and most efficient manufacturers -namely Sunpower, First Solar and SMA. Both inverter technologies, string and central, have been incorporated. This plant will be able to generate not only specific performance but also large amount of quality data on performance of various technologies in Indian conditions”.
