RAIPUR: Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Chhattisgarh has expanded its panel base and formed a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Panel. The first meeting of the newly constituted panel on CSR for the year 2011-12 held on July 1, 2011 in CII Office Raipur.

India CSRMr. Prateek Pandey, Head CII Chhattisgarh State office welcomed the members of CII. Meeting began with introduction of members. Mr. Sharad Goel, President of Sarda Energy & Minerals Ltd., the convener of the CSR committee, chaired the meeting.

During the meeting members discussed on Terms of Reference; Constitution, Work plan of the panel and other related subject for the year.

In the meeting Mr Prateek Pandey said, Chhattisgarh emerged as on of the fastest developing state and corporate houses are playing very important role in the socio-economy development of the state through investment in the various sectors. Corporates are very aware about their responsibility towards society and stake holders and having separate funds for the social projects and peripheral development activities under its Corporate Social Responsibility. Mr. Pandey said that CSR Panel will sensitize CSR among industry by promoting awareness on the important of embedding economy, social and environment dimensions into corporate strategy and business processes and practices. He appreciated and said some industries both the big and small are doing very systematic CSR in the large scale within the state.

Mr. Sharad Goel, President of Sarda Energy & Minerals Ltd., the convener of the CSR committee said industry are deeply realizing the important of CSR and integrating it into the business strategy. It is good sign that Chhattisgarh based industry are adopting CSR strategy for peripheral developments. He advocated the wildly approach for the CSR in the state.

Mr Rusen Kumar, Executive, Corporate Communications of the Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (JSPL) explained CSR activities of the company. He said JSPL is one of the biggest private sector investor in the state and it’s very aware and committed towards their CSR. He informed that JSPL and its group companies has able to change the socio-economy scenario of the Raigarh area, Eastern part of the state through various projects of Steel, power and mining.

Ms. Shaheen Nilofer, Chief Field Officer of UNICEF informed about activities of the UNICEF in the state. She advocated the Government, Corporate and NGO partnership for the inclusive development of the state.

Mr. P.N. Khandelwal, CEO of Hira Power & Steel Ltd said for the better CSR work long term planning and interaction between Govt and industry is required.

Mr. Vinod Pillai, Director of Godawari Power & Ispat Ltd; Mr. C.N. Mathewkutty, AGM of Lafarge India Pvt; Mr Rahul Bhattacharya; Ms. Richa Lall HR Executive of Idea Inc Management and other members also shared their views on CSR.

Following senior executives from the respective organizations are nominated for the CSR Panel:

Mr. C.N. Mathewkutty, Asst General Manger of Lafarge India Pvt. Ltd.;

Mr. Ramesh Singh, General Manager Human Resource Development of Monnet Ispat Ltd.;

Ms. Vandana Khare, Senior Programme Officer CSR of Monnet Ispat Ltd.;

Mr. R.K. Kher Head CSR of Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd.;

Dr. Monica Sethi, Faculty In-charge (Industry Institute Interface) of Disha Education Society;

Mr. Rahul Bhattacharya, Manager Corporate Communication of Vandana Global Ltd.; and
