RAIPUR: India’s Largest thermal power producer NTPC Limited will contribute Rs 100 crore for setting up Raigarh Medial College at Raigarh in the state of Chhattisgarh under its corporate social responsibility (CSR). Company is also agreed to give Rs 10 crore for infrastructure development of Kirodimal Institute of Technology at Raigarh. Raigarh Medical College is under construction in Raigarh town.
Arup Roy Choudhury, CMD, NTPC Ltd met Dr Raman Singh, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh on 27 December in Raipur and informed developmental project of the company in particularly in Raigarh. Dr Raman Singh discussed with NTPC CMD on Lara-Raigarh project on various issues including rehabilitation and resettlement (R&R) of the project in detail. During the meeting senior officials of the government were presented. Mr Choudhury also presented a checqe of Rs 2 crore for smooth function of Korba Engineering College. NTPC has given 10 crore for the Korba Engineering College so far.
It is to noted that NTPC is setting up 4000 MW capacity power plant in Lara near Raigarh, eastern part of State. NTPC Ltd Lara Integrated Super Thermal Power to be established in two stages stage-I (2×800 MW) and Stage-II (3×800 MW). The estimated cost of the stage-1 project is Rs. 11741.72 crores. Public hearing for the first phase of the project held on 23 December, 2011 in Mahloi village near Pusaur, Raigarh.
9 villages are being affected in the project. During the public hearing local public supported the project.
Due to availability of coal and water Raigarh region has emerged as investment destination for the power companies. Chhattisgarh will be adding 30000 MW power capacity in the next 5 year.
The Korba power station of the NTPC has a total installed capacity of 2600 Mw.
