XIMB and TISS jointly organized 3 Days CSR Conference in Bhubaneswar

BHUBANESWAR: Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (XIMB) and Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS), Mumbai jointly hosted a three days National Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility in Bhubaneswar. CSR leaders across the county participated in the event and shared best practices and social innovation.

The event saw involvement by both individuals- in the form of paper presentations and Corporates in the form of presentations that showcased their CSR achievements. The three main tracks of the conference were- Models of CSR Implementation, CSR Implementation in Public Sector Companies, and Emerging Management Issues in CSR.  Some of the key speakers in the conference were B.L. Bagra, CMD NALCO Ltd; Dr. Huzaifa Khorakiwala, CEO, Wockhardt Foundation; Clement Chauvet, UNICEF;  S.C Padhi, D (P), Mahanadi Coalfields Limited; Prof. Bobby Bannerjee, University of Western Sydney; Prof. Sanjoy Mukherjee, IIM Shillong; Rajesh Chintak, TATA Steel; Dr. N. Seetharama ABLE AG, and Prof Freek Cronje, University of Northwest, South Africa.

Corporates having facility in the state like Airports Authority of India, Vedanta Alumina Limited, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Rourkela Steel Plant and many others participated in the presentations.

Corporate Social Responsibility is fast gaining relevance in the 21st century- especially after the new guidelines from the Government of India, which makes CSR mandatory for Public Sector Undertakings. The primary purpose of this conference is thus to explore emerging trends in CSR in various organizations, identify challenges and issues.

Corporate Social Responsibility has assumed an important role in the context of India’s emergence as an economic superpower. Indian corporations are now expected to play a more constructive role in social development and aligning economic growth with social equity. Both Indian public and private sector companies are preparing themselves to get involved with issues related to community development and inclusive growth. Guidelines from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs now envision Corporate India to work towards a growth based on Triple Bottom Line and Sustainable Development.

The National Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility 2012 (NCCSR) celebrates the platinum jubilee of TISS  and silver jubilee of XIMB, two organizations with unquestionable commitment to equitable growth and inclusive development.

The conference aimed at discussing the various issues related to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), with a special focus on implementation. The new guidelines from Government of India has made CSR mandatory for public sector undertakings and the private sector, too, is urged to implement CSR with more structure and method. This context calls for a review of existing practices, policies and paradigms. More knowledge is required to understand the best area to work on, the right partners to engage with and the necessary alignment with business reality. Simultaneously, the conference explores the emerging trends and next practices in CSR implementation, models of partnership, managerial and organizational challenges and issues in monitoring and evaluation of such projects in the public/private sector.

The NCCSR 2012 is facilitated by the Centre for Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Corporate Social Responsibility (CRRCSR) at XIMB and Centre for Development Studies at TISS.
