DHENKANAL: GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL), which is setting up 1,400 MW coal-based Thermal Power Plant in Kamlanga, has extended its helping hand to the people of Kansara village of Hindol sub-division, who were affected by the February 24 devastating fire.
Mr. K.V.V. Rao, Managing Director, GKEL, distributed utensils including 200 aluminium
buckets and mugs to the affected villagers in the presence of Dhenkanal District Sub-Collector Mr. Umakanta Swain and Hindol Sub-Division Tahasildar Mr. Bichitrananada Tripathy.
“I express my deep concern for the affected villagers, who have lost everything in the fire mishap. We have just extended our little hand to the affected people and will continue to extend further support in coming days,” the Managing Director said.
GKEL Managing Director along with company officials met the affected families of the Kansara village and discussed relief distribution and rehabilitation of the people in the presence of District officials.
At least 250 families were affected and homeless with the fire engulfing over 1,000 houses on February 24. While two persons killed in the mishap, over 25 persons were suffered burn injuries in the fire incident.
GKEL as a part of its social responsibility is providing round-the-clock ambulance facility for the benefit of the local villagers, adjacent to its project site. The company has been conducting regular health check-up camps for the local villagers.
GKEL has helped the Dhenkanal District Hospital set up and fully equip an Accident Care Unit, the first of its kind in Odisha. The company is also setting up a 30-bed state-of-the-art branded specialty hospital through its CSR arm-GMR Varalakshmi Foundation, which will open for services shortly.
