Interview of Aravind Sitaraman, President – Inclusive Growth, Cisco Systems…
India has witnessed an alarming increase in the magnitude and frequency of natural disasters. Disasters i
ndiscriminately impact all communities and sectors – right from less-privileged sections of society to flourishing business houses. The frequency of their occurrence in India has given rise to a changed and complex dynamic influencing all segments. Businesses in particular are in a pivotal and strategic position to influence the country’s response to disasters. This strategic positioning additionally has pertinent implications for the preservation and acceleration of the growth of the business sector.
Thus far, there has been noticeable effort to ensure the inclusion of disaster response strategies in business. However, effective disaster management is not only dependent on how actors respond to them, but more importantly on how each actor is prepositioned and prepared for them. Additionally, the roles adopted by each actor and effective collaboration amongst one another are crucial to ensuring effective disaster management.
With the monsoon season just around the corner, CSO Partners is hosting a National Symposium entitled:
Samanvay Fostering Business – NGO Partnership for Disaster Management
Through this symposium, we aim to encourage concerted efforts and enable stakeholders within the businesses, government and civil society to interact, dialogue and decide on concrete strategies and approaches towards managing disasters effectively.
