LANJIGARH: The alumina refinery of Vedanta Aluminium Limited (VAL) at Lanjigarh, Odisha has been conferred with the prestigious ‘International Safety Award’ by one of the world’s leading Health and Safety organizations – British Safety Council, London. Vedanta has won this award with Distinction by securing highest marks in the category.

With zero Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR), the company boasts of having 19.8 million accident free man hours till March 2012.

According to Dr. Mukesh Kumar, President & Chief Operating Officer, VAL-Lanjigarh,“Environmental protection and safety is an integral part of Vedanta’s business practices. We are consistently working towards achieving our goal of zero harm at the plant site.”

Every year, the British Safety Council runs prestigious award schemes which allow organisations to benchmark their performance and gain external endorsement of their health, safety and environmental management. This year 550 applicants were judged by a panel of independent health and safety professionals under three categories -Distinction, Merit and Pass. The award ceremony would be held at London’s Grosvenor House on 18 May 2012
