Go Green in the City is an innovative competition open to students in nine countries (Brazil, China, France, Germany, India, USA, Russia, Turkey and Poland). Working in teams of two, with at least one woman in the team, students will devise viable solutions for energy management sectors critical to the city, such as: home, university, retail, water and hospital. The best proposals should reconcile increased demand for energy, social progress and environmental protection.

Out of almost 600 applying teams, the top 100 have been selected for the second phase of the challenge. Now the students have five weeks to further develop their idea together with an assigned mentor from Schneider Electric. The mentors will help them to develop the initial idea and find an innovative as well as feasible solution for the market. By April 22nd, the students should send in their developed ideas. The top 25 teams will be selected and invited to the two-day final in Paris in June 2012.

All 200 participants in the top 100 teams are guaranteed internship interviews within Schneider Electric. They are not only competing for a place in the final in Paris, but also for the first prize – a trip across three continents. During their trip, the winners will be visiting the Group facilities and will be given the opportunity to network with employees and high-level management. Furthermore, the two winners will be offered jobs. Suma Elengikal and María Consuelo Palacios Lafuente (Bonn University, Germany), were laureates of Go Green in the City 2011 for their idea « The Green University » and visited Sao Paolo and Beijing during their travels in 2011.

The Go Green in the City challenge should allow Schneider Electric to identify and bond strongly with the future talents of the Group. Since its first edition, Go Green in the City has received significant recognition from the international student community. About 500 teams and 1,000 candidates from eight different countries participated in the 2011 competition. Organized for three consecutive years and gaining more success each year, the competition aims to involve the young generation in creating new ideas for energy management in the cities.
