The theme for International Nurses Day 2012 was ‘Closing the Gap from Evidence to Action’. The theme underscores the need for action with regard to treatment on the basis of strong evidence regarding to illness. This enables maximum utilization of scarce resources thus allowing timely and better healing of the patient. The theme also urges nurses to move beyond the traditional role of nursing and pre-empt the needs of the patient.
Mr Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Corporate Services) Tata Steel was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He lauded the energy and enthusiasm displayed by the nurses and encouraged them to continue to enliven the hospital. He also appreciated the contribution of the nurses to the commendable performance of TMH. Many senior members of the hospital also participated in the event to support and applaud the nursing staff in their efforts to provide the best of their service to the hospital.
Nursing is one of the noblest professions in the world. It gives a great sense of satisfaction to care for those in pain and sickness and thus ‘nurse’ them back to health. It is the duty of the nurse to implement the physician’s instructions, thus making the nurse a healthcare-giver in the real sense. International Nurses Day, which is celebrated across the world on May 12, is a tribute to Florence Nightingale (1820 – 1910) who is considered the founder of modern nursing and is worshipped by nurses all over the world for the compassion she showed to those in need of medical help.
