NEW DELHI: The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) today announced the appointment of former SEBI chairman, C. B. Bhave as the new Executive Chairperson of its Board. Mr. Bhave takes over from the eminent urbanist Shirish Patel.
The IIHS Board and promoter group consists of a group of eminent Indians including: Cyrus Guzder, Deepak Parekh, Deepak Satwalekar, Jamshyd Godrej, Kishore Mariwala, Nasser Munjee, Nandan Nilekani, Rahul Mehrotra, Rakesh Mohan, Renana Jhabvala, Shirish Patel, Vijay Kelkar, Xerxes Desai and Aromar Revi. Together they drive the IIHS mission to become a leading inter-disciplinary learning, research and practice institution committed to the equitable, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlements.
Mr C. B. Bhave was the Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), India’s capital markets regulator from 2008 to 2011. He was also the founding Chairman and Managing Director of the National Securities Depository (NSDL), which has established a national infrastructure of international standards that handles most of the securities held and settled in dematerialised form in the Indian capital market.
Mr. Bhave brings this expertise of building national institutions to IIHS. The IIHS is one among prospective national Universities for Research and Innovation – that are expected to help transform the country’s higher education, innovation and research landscape over the next few decades.
The Universities for Research and Innovation Bill 2012, introduced recently in the Lok Sabha, is aimed at allowing the establishment and incorporation of ‘Research and Innovation Universities’ such as IIHS to become hubs for learning ecosystems to develop around education, research and innovation. Its first campus is being established in Bengaluru.
The Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) is a national education institution committed to the equitable, sustainable and efficient transformation of Indian settlements. IIHS is India’s first prospective independently funded and managed inter-disciplinary national University for Research and Innovation that focuses on its ongoing urban and development transformation. It is a first-of-its-kind, learning, research, practice and innovation-oriented knowledge initiative that seeks to bridge the conventional excellence, scale and inclusion divide.
