MUMBAI: On World Environment Day which is June 5, 2012, Light of Life Trust, an NGO in Mumbai that empowers rural children drop-outs by reinstating them back to high school is inaugurating a tree planting drive at Karjat.
The tree planting exercise will thereafter continue on all weekends in the month of June and July and will end on July 29, 2012. Corporate employees and individuals with their families, friends and colleagues are invited to plant a sapling which will be provided by the Trust.
Each tree planting initiative will cost Rs. 7,200—which is actually the yearly amount it takes to provide a rural child with Higher Secondary Education for the entire year. Light of Life Trust hopes that generous organizations and individual donors will come forward to plant up to 250 trees during this period. Thus raising a combined amount of 18 lakhs for the betterment of 250 children.
Light of Life Trust is registered under Bombay Public Trusts Act 1950. It is also accredited by Credibility Alliance and empanelled by the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in its CSR hub. Since its inception in 2002 this ‘Anando’ project as it is commonly known has reached out to over 7000 beneficiaries in 35 Centers covering 350 villages in Maharashtra.
