JHARSUGUDA: As part of its continuing effort to imbibe a culture of total safety and to promote and inculcate safety consciousness among the drivers, helpers and labourers in particular, a three-day Road safety awareness campaign was organized here at Vedanta plant premises.
The campaign was ceremoniously inaugurated on 18 June by Mr. DK Singh, Head HSE Vedanta Jharsuguda and Mr. SN Singh, Sr. Vice President. This three day event held at various locations in the plant premises was attended by over one thousand drivers, helpers, labourers, employees and visitors.
The sheer number of visitors and the applauding crowd present during these three days gave a festive look to the event. Mr. Pramod Suri, CEO Vedanta Aluminium, Dr. Rajeev Nayan, Mr. Gattu Rambhav, Mr. DN Behera, Mr. Venkat Reddy and Mr. AK Padhy earnestly shared their valuable thoughts and experiences with the audience.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Suri said, “Everybody must care for safety as life cannot be compensated by any means. We need to practise road safety norms in and around the work place and wherever we operate.” Highlighting on the basic safety practices, he stressed upon the role of drivers and helpers in particular to inculcate safety habits for the well being of their family members and dear ones. Any loss due to an accident gets multiplied many times as it directly affects the dependent family back home, he added.
In his introductory address Mr. D K Singh urged the need for addressing road safety issues in rapidly developing industrial sector in the region as a whole. He reiterated Vedanta’s total commitment towards the cause and its continuous efforts in making the operational area a “Zero harm” work place.
Mr. Gattu Rambhav, Head IPP advised everyone to follow the safety norms religiously. He insisted that everyone must remain committed and give top most priority to road safety all the time.
During the occasion, documentary films related to “Road Safety Measures” and “Driving discipline and habits” were screened. The audience enjoyed the Safety educational skits (drama) performed by the partner agencies, CREW, M/S Steag and M/S Simar.
The three-day campaign on road safety awareness turned out to be very informative and was appreciated by all.
