NEW DELHI :Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) India, a not-for-profit organization working to make giving more effective and NGOs more successful in India, launched a Media Fellowship Program to encourage writers and journalists highlight development sector stories.
The Fellowship shall provide an opportunity for writers to experience the social, economic and cultural life of disadvantaged communities and reflect the status of corporate social responsibility (CSR) projects as perceived by the community and other stakeholders.
The Fellowship will support research and writing for the participants who have enrolled in the program.
Meenakshi Batra, CEO, CAF India, said ” We are confident that this innovative program will have a positive impact on the society by focusing on the issues that need immediate attention. The stories by fellows are expected to create an enabling environment in the area of CSR and sensitize stakeholders on various dimensions of CSR activities and intervention in the country. I thank Give2Asia for helping us to start this program which is going to offer an exciting opportunity to all the selected journalists and media specialists”
With years of experience in handling philanthropy and community development initiatives for companies, institutions and individuals, CAF India has established itself as pioneers in this field with an aim to ensure greater impact of philanthropic and CSR investments in the society.
Tarun Basu, Editor-in-Chief, IANS, said “This is a welcome step by CAF India. Many stories which are not necessarily breaking news, but are impactful, are usually not given their due. There is a huge gap between the India which is progressing and the other India, which is left to fend for itself. This will encourage the media fraternity to take notice and play an important role”
Shantanu Sen, a senior broadcast media professional who currently serves as OSD to CEO Prasar Bharti, added “Private news channels have limitations in their capacity to carry stories on development and social sector, due to the TRP-Ad revenue driven business model. Doordarshan and All India Radio on the other hand, are perfectly positioned as platforms for the dissemination of such narratives. However, the content has to be engaging, innovative and convincing”
The outcome of the fellowship is to hone the skills of the fellows to represent their work on CSR issues in different mediums, both Print and Digital. Seven fellows have qualified to undertake this Fellwoship program for a period of two months and will travel across various parts of the country to write on diverse topics covering the whole gamut of the development sector.
Through this program, CAF India intends to bring to life, the stories of the real beneficiaries whose life has been impacted positively. This, in turn, will create an enabling environment, help raise awareness and motivate the society to give more effectively to causes they feel close to.
Fellows will be given an award and a certificate of appreciation at a Felicitation event on completion of the Media Fellowship Program.
