On Children’s Day, Mr. Anil Agarwal, Chairman, Vedanta Resources Plc, stressed on educating the underprivileged childen via a tweet as a prerequisite to create an empowered nation.
Highlighting education to be one of the most effective tools which could be the foundation for a sustained economic growth, Mr. Agarwal emphasized on equal education opportunities for all children, as being the most fundamental initiative for a long-term sustainable change. Equal education will empower the new generation to emerge as social and economic actors in influencing and shaping inclusive policies.
Over the years, Vedanta has been at the forefront with initiatives targeted towards community development across areas like education, women’s empowerment, healthcare, livelihood and environmental protection.
The initiatives have benefitted over 3.1 million people in India and have ensured development of the communities in all locations of the company’s operations. Over 0.99 million people have benefited from platforms created for the overall development of children and various tailor made educational initiatives which complement formal and informal education systems.
Vedanta’s ‘Khushi – Care for the underprivileged children in India’ is a social media campaign that encourages people to take individual steps. Khushi advices citizens to take a more personal approach, such as providing a healthy meal daily, or paying the school fees of an underprivileged child. Khushi promotes care for the underprivileged children, their health, nutrition and education.
The focus of the campaign is to educate people at large, bring awareness, bring policy changes, sensitize people towards empowering the new generation and build a new India.
